Marvel Movies for the Average Nerd

I know there are many huge Marvel fans out in Disney Nerd land. Let me be clear. I am not a super fan. I am your average run of the mill movie fan. I have never read the comic books and up until just over a year ago I had only seen Iron Man and Iron Man 2 but not another single movie in the Avengers series. And then one day…. this happened.

One Saturday afternoon, a little over a year ago, Captain America: Winter Solder was on TV. I sat down and watched the whole movie and found it incredibly entertaining. However, I had no idea who any of these people were and as a Disney Nerd, I felt like a complete failure. I went on-demand that weekend and watched the first Avengers movie, Captain America and Thor. I found those equally entertaining.
I spent an afternoon reading everything I could about the order upon which to watch everything. I learned there are different schools of thought surrounding the order. Some say to keep it simple and watch them in the order they were released. I took a different route and went with the chronological order of the storyline. I found that it was the best way to understand what was going on in the Marvel universe.

* Indicates that I haven’t seen it and I don’t think it is necessary. Some of you may disagree and that’s alright. It is why I put it on the list.  There is nothing wrong with too much Marvel.
So I talked to a few friends at work about my adventures in Marvel movie watching and they suggested I watch Agents of Shield. Thanks to Netflix, I picked up that show and watched the whole first season in a week. Then I was told there is a general timeline to the movies and Agents of Shield will intertwine with that timeline. And with that, we were off to the races.

Marvel has 4 TV Series and with each there appears to be a chronological order. However, if you want to incorporate the tv shows in with the movies, there is a degree of difficultly we add to how we watch everything.  This is true especially for those that are new Marvel. I think, for now, we keep it simple and I will just say this: each of these shows is great on their own. If you have the time to dedicate, I do recommend them. Don’t worry about how and in what order to watch them. Just take the time to enjoy what each has to offer.

Thanks for reading and have a magical day!!
