DHS Galactic Nights and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Panel

We just had the best experience, The Disney Nerds were invited to attend Star Wars Galactic Nights at Disney Hollywood studios.  This is a great special ticket event.   We were hosted by Walt Disney World for purposes of review. All experiences and opinions are our own.

Per Disney:

Don’t miss this family-friendly event filled with classic Star Wars fun and exclusive experiences—taking place May 27, 2018!

“This Will Be a Day Long Remembered…”
Calling all Star Wars fans! You’re invited to the return of a popular event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s Star Wars: Galactic Nights, a one-of-a-kind party where Guests from all across the globe can come together and celebrate a galaxy far, far away…

No matter your age, put on your finest Star Wars-themed costumes and attire, and walk the red carpet toward a galactic introduction, followed by a whole universe of event entertainment and interactive adventures—from a park-wide scavenger hunt to Star Wars Character encounters and more.

Plus, all throughout the event, you can enjoy many of your favorite Disney’s Hollywood Studios attractions, with little-to-no wait time!

So get ready for a night you’ll never forget—complete with special appearances from Star Wars characters, exclusive event merchandise and a commemorative keepsake gift!

Here is the video from the panel.  It was opened up by a regular at these events, Warrick Davis.  He came out and got the crowd excited and then introduced the panelists.  We heard a lot of information including new At-At’s, another Spaceship in addition to the Falcon, the name of the outpost and much more!

These were the panelists:

  • Scott Trowbridge – As Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, Scott oversees the strategic concept development and integration of the Star Wars franchise across all lines of business—including merchandise, food & beverage, marketing and operations.
  • Eric Baker – As Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, Eric is responsible for developing stories and ideas for Disney theme parks and other Disney venues, as well as bringing these stories to life—from props to creatures. Some of his past projects include Tortuga Tavern, the extended Haunted Mansion queue and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.
  • Margaret Kerrison – As Managing Story Editor at Walt Disney Imagineering, Margaret is responsible for the overall story direction in the Star Wars portfolio in which she guides and manages Star Wars-related story initiatives throughout all Disney lands, resorts and attractions. Margaret’s works also includes Hyperspace Mountain in Disneyland Park and Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Jon Georges – As an Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering with over 30 years of experience, Jon has produced many projects around the world in addition to his current work on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge—including the recent updates to Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom park.

After that it was a veritable SW Galactic night experience.  Rock-n-Roller Coaster was set up for Galactic Nights with a fun ride.

The above projections goes to show how invested the Disney Company is in that technology.  We saw it at the last Galactic nights and then again during the holidays.  We can’t wait to see what is next.  As the night went on there was a lot to do.  There were special meet and greets where you could talk, get pictures and autographs from some of your favorite Star Wars heroes or villains or even robots.   There were also great Star Wars themed Menus for food and drinks.

Disney Hollywood Studios Galactic Nights was a great time.  We had a really fun time along with finding out some great information about the new Star Wars land, Galaxy’s Edge.  But, as it always seems, all good things come to an end.  This end was incredible!  We saw one incredible projection/fireworks show in the Galactic Spectacular show with special additions just for Galactic Nights.

We had a great time at this event.  For a little while we put the Toy Story opening on hold and fully embrace Star Wars, if even for just the night.  Were you there or had any questions about the night, comment below or email us at questions@thedisneynerdspodcast.com .

Thanks Lisa and Jimmy and Angela and Wyatt!

Hello all! I have been going to WDW since 1976 and can't count the number of trips along with some cruises. I love all things Disney, from the parks to the studios to the history of what made the Walt Disney Company what it is...Walt himself.
