Disney Nerds Reviews: Skipper Canteen!
Allow me to start off by saying… this is the best table service I’ve had at Disney World!
For this past Disney Nerds Podcast meetup, I splurged and got the meal plan. I decided to get reservations at Skipper’s Canteen for my group. I always look over the menu before making a reservation. I feel as though many people do not take it into consideration when planning their meals. The overhype for Cinderella’s Royal Table or Be Our Guest tends to make you look away from Skippers!
Let us begin with the adults favorite…
The first menu item I am excited to review is their house sangria! This was one of the best sangria I’ve ever had. The touch of cinnamon is what the brought the whole drink together! It was not too sweet nor too dry but yet a perfect combination.
Time to eat! What are we having?
For the entrée I had the “Tastes like Chicken”because it is! (Yes, that is the name of the dish) The maple colored sauce that comes with this dish is to die for!! The chicken was flavorful and had little more breading than I like but it was cooked to perfection.
The combination of the rice and vegetables with that sauce was mouthwatering. Needless to say, my plate was completely empty once I was done.
The other fantastic nerds in my group had the Perkins Thai Noodles and the “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork. It’s seems as though the pork and chicken came with the same sauce. Both dishes were fantastic. If you are a fan of spicy food, I recommend going with the Thai noodles.
Dessert you say?!
When I say I’m saving the best for last, I mean it!! A perfect way to end your day is by ordering their famous dessert, “Kungaloosh!” Which is a Chocolate Cake with Caramelized Bananas served with Cashew- Caramel Ice Cream topped with Coffee Dust. Aka Heaven!!!!
If I could eat this dessert as my only meal for the rest of my life… I’d be a happy camper! The size seems underwhelming, but it is so rich in flavor that is all you need.
Now a perfect flavorful meal is not all you look for in Disney dining… lets talk about the environment. This restaurant is based off of the Jungle Cruise. You have very witty hosts and servers that make the experience that much better. With the corny jokes and the decor that surrounds you, it’s the perfect mix to tie in with the delicious food. Skipper’s is without a doubt a Disney Nerds Podcast favorite!
Keep your eyes open while dining here for several hidden decor gems. There is so much to look at and take in. Skipper’s Canteen will always be on my “must do” list when going to Disney from now on
