Disney Nerds Getting Crafty: Mickey Ornament Wreath

If you’re like me, you have an overabundance of ball ornaments from the holidays. Or you have a need to add a little Disney to your holiday decor! Making a Mickey Mouse Shaped ornament wreath is all about patience!

What supplies are required?

The first step in the process is to go to your local craft store and purchase three styrofoam rings. Two the same size and one larger one. This took over 100+ ornaments of various sizes to complete. Amazon has them for sale year round if you’re feeling the spirit any other time of the year!

How to get started.

Once you have your supplies, you are going to want to connect the three rings together (in the shape of mickey) with hot glue. In this step, it’s very important to hold the rings you are gluing together until it cools off. Do not start applying ornaments until the three rings are connected and completely cooled off. If you try and work with it hot, it will disconnect.

Now you are going to start adding the ornaments. I suggest going around the outside of the whole wreath first so you can make sure it will lay flat against whatever door or wall you hang it on.

The trick to applying the ornaments is to remove the top metal piece then push the ornament into the foam. Doing this you make the indention of where you will place the ornament. Fill the hole you created with hot glue then immediately place that ornament back into that same hole. Hold the ornament until the glue is cooled. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you use shatter free ornaments. If you use glass the hot glue will shatter them.

I also suggest getting different sized ornaments so you can fill gaps. This also gives it more dimension. As well as different finishes on the ornaments help give more detail. From sparkle, matte, and shine, you cannot go wrong with any colors either.

Last minute tips?

I completed this project in increments to avoid rushing and misplacing ornaments. It took me a total of three hours to make. It is possible to do this in one sitting but I always recommend taking breaks from time-consuming projects to come back with fresh ideas.
