Disney Hollywood Studios Translation of Aurebesh in Batuu’s Black Spire
Bright Suns and Hello. I’ve just gotten back from another trip to Disney Hollywood Studios’ Black Spire Outpost. One of my small nerdy hobbies has been to learn Aurebesh and I love translating all of the signs, texts, and graffiti that you see all over the outpost. You never know what you will find. In season 2 I translated some of the screens from the Razorcrest in the Mandolorian, Disney+ series as the ship landed. I found an incredible, totally out-of-context, message. Here is a Link to That Post
So this past trip I took a couple of pictures of various Aurebesh messages and translated them to see how “in the story” they were. I think it went really well this trip. This first picture is of a Resistance Fighter Pilot’s uniform in one of the lockers on the queue for the Rise of the Resistance. It was a little tough to translate as the text is upside down. Once I figured that out it was easy. As to what it is, the text is very specific and I think a pilot would wear one of these on a water-filled world like Mon Cala or Kamino. “Pull To Inflate”. It’s obvious this is instructions on an inflatable life preserver like we would find on our planes.
Later on, on the Rise of the Resistance attraction, as you are being taken off your Transport and getting lined up for interrogation, you look back you see this warning on the engine assembly of Lt. Beck’s, Resistance transport. The message is normal and expected, but in some cases, that makes it cool to check. For here we got, “Danger Keep Clear”.
The next stop is also on the Rise attraction as the re-programmed R5 droid takes us for a bit of a ride. As we get onto the transport there is a lot of information right there in front of us. Gotta check next time to see if it changes during the escape. But for now, here is what you see at first.
The next stop at the Black Spire outpost was to fill up on water. Because even though BSO is located on Batuu, Batuu has a very Florida kind of atmosphere and water is important. There is a water filling station at the fringe of the marketplace that serves up free water. You might need to fight a friend of Omi, the Force-sensitive female Dianoga from the garbage compactor on the first Death Star though. Here is a sign right next to this fountain that might be important to know what it says.
As we travel through the Outpost and you head past Oga’s and head toward the Imperial side of the camp you pass this display. It appears that there is a company that seems to be placed on various planets to help out explorers in this part of the galaxy. The Outer Rim Expedition and Supply company is here for all things that you need…or think you need.
The last stop for this visit to the Black Spires Outpost is the Droid Depot. Inside there is a lot of droid building going on. Around the sides of the factory, there are a lot of displays of old droids that were known to be helpful ad a bunch that were downright dangerous. In one of those holding cages, there was a warning message that might be worth passing on. If you recognize where the phrase comes from, leave it in the comments. This one was great to translate because it was unexpected, but totally correct.
Thanks for joining me on this walk through the Black Spires Outpost on Batuu in Walt Disney World’s Disney Hollywood Studios. Leave a comment or picture for the next translations to do.
That’s fantastic, great job Ed
