Why I can’t wait for Disney+? The Imagineering Story!
All the way back at the D23 Expo 2013, then Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs premiered a trailer for an upcoming movie that was to explore the past, present and future of Walt Disney Imagineering by noted documentary filmmaker Leslie Iwerks. If the name Iwerks sounds familiar it should, Leslie is the daughter of Disney Legend Don Iwerks and granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, the animator and co-creator of Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Her previous work includes profiles of Pixar Animation Studios and visual effects house Industrial Light & Magic, both celebrated documentaries well worth the watch.
This is the trailer for that debuted at the D23 Expo 2013, and was posted on the Disney Parks Blog shortly after, (6 Years Ago in 2013), closing with “Coming 2016”. I for one have been looking forward to watching the documentary since I first saw that trailer in 2016.
At the D23 Expo 2015, as part of the 60 Years of Imagineering Disneyland panel, Leslie was the moderator of the panel, and premiered a different trailer of the documentary, with coming 2016 again.
Here is that preview from the conference.
So what happened to the 90-minute feature I had been waiting for? Well, it turned into a six-hour miniseries that will be available on Disney+ Day 1!!!
The Summary from Disney+ Reads Like this..
A Disney fan’s dream, this documentary series looks at the more than 65-year history of Walt Disney Imagineering through parallel storylines focused on the people, the craft, and the business. Oscar®- and Emmy®-nominated director and producer Leslie Iwerks is creator of the series that will feature exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage from Disney parks around the globe.
In addition, a new trailer for Disney+ was released…. wait, that looks a lot like the original… except no, coming 2016 ending this time!
Don’t get me wrong, the Mandalorian is high on my list for Disney+, but the Imagineering Story will be the first thing I watch on Tuesday, November 12th!!!
What will you be watching? Let me know in the comments below!!!
I’ve been waiting for this since it was first announced! This is the reason for my Disney+ subscription!
