Disney Nerds Comic Corner: The Haunted Mansion
I have a confession: I don’t consider myself a comic book nerd.
I am without a doubt a Disney Nerd though. So imagine my joy when I was at my local comic store with my boyfriend (who is a comic book nerd) and found some Disney on the shelf!
Now, I know that Marvel started as comic books. So since dating my comic book nerd I’ve read some of those Marvel comics and I’m getting into them. But my excitement is from finding a Haunted Mansion comic paperback!
Yes, Disney Comics!
Back in 2014, Marvel released Disney Kingdoms. It is a line of comics that was to tell new stories that expanded on the lands and attractions at Disney Parks. Personally, I didn’t know they existed. I was very excited to stumble upon a paperback of all the Haunted Mansion comics.
The paperback consists of 2 series of Disney Kingdom comics.
First is Haunted Mansion #1-5 which originally released in 2016. It’s the story of Danny who gets trapped inside the Haunted Mansion that looks strangely like the one we’re familiar with in Disneyland. So Danny gets trapped and he must find a way out. Sound familiar? Without giving away spoilers, Danny gets help from some characters that we all know and love in the Haunted Mansion too. It’s a great story! I also loved the artwork. I was reminded of my favorite scenes from the attraction while reading this tale. It was so much fun to read some dialogue of some of my favorite Haunted Mansion characters in action!
The second story in the paperback is Seekers of the Weird #1-5 which released originally in 2014. This story is based on the Museum of the Weird. The museum is an attraction that legendary imagineer Rolly Crump designed but never came to be. The story is about Maxwell and Melody who have to help their parents who run the Museum but have been kidnapped. Their uncle shows up to help and explains all the “weird” going on. He’s a great character that reminded me a bit of Jack Sparrow. It was another great read! It makes me wonder what this attraction would have been like if it would’ve been built.
The book also includes additional artwork from the planning of the Museum of the Weird and other tidbits that are just fun for any Haunted Mansion fan! I’d love to discuss everything about these stories but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that might get it and I recommend that you do!
It’s a great story for all ages too.
Anyone that loves the Haunted Mansion attraction will enjoy this comic! It’s also a short read since it’s a comic so you could read it in one sitting, which I did (three times!).
I loved reading these stories. I’m so glad I found this and I’m now on the hunt for more!
You can get your own copy on Amazon but clicking here. I recommend reaching out to your local comic book shop. Local shops are a great resource and they are happy to order things like this comic book. They also will pre-order new books. The good shops will even create a pull list for you. They will pull the new comics from any series that you might be reading and keep a stack for you to pick up. They will also recommend other books once they know your taste. The owner of my local comic shop knows me and my boyfriend’s taste very well by now and makes sure to show me any Disney comics that come through his shop or any that might be coming out (as well as some Star Wars and Marvel but that’s for another time).
So let us know your thought on this story and if you want to hear more about other Disney/Star Wars/Marvel comics that we get our hand on!
