What’s Happening at Walt Disney World? Here is your update for September 2021!
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary is around the corner, Disney parks around the world are getting ready for the holiday season, and Disney Cruise lines turn to the stars for a first-of-its-kind interactive experience on the high seas.
In Walt Disney World, preparation for the 50th Anniversary is in full swing. The 18-month long celebration begins Oct. 1, 2021, featuring two new nighttime spectaculars: HarmonioUS at Epcot and Enchantment at the Magic Kingdom, KiteTails, a daytime show at the animal kingdom, the Fab 50 character collection scattered all over the resort, and so much more – be sure to check out Sams Disney News 50th-anniversary preview for more.
Disney will be letting the Genie out of the lamp this fall. The new complimentary digital service is designed to help create your best Disney day ever. Built into the My Disney Experience and the Disneyland apps, the Disney Genie service will help you maximize your park time. The service includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. Also announced and available at an additional cost, Disney Genie+ and individual attraction selection for the new Lightning lane entrance to select attractions. The lightning lane replaces Disney fast pass, fastpass+, and Disneylands Max pass offerings. The new service is set to roll out later this fall.
Disneyland has introduced the Magic Key program, a guest-centric offering that delivers choice, flexibility, and value for annual park admission. While Walt Disney World introduced the new Annual Passholder program ranging from the Pixie Dust Pass to the Incredia-pass, annual passes are available now just in time for the 50th Anniversary
It’s Halloween at Disneyland, and they are celebrating this year marks the 20th time Jack Skellington has visited the 999 Happy Haunts who dwell in the Haunted Mansion, transforming this attraction into Haunted Mansion Holiday. Each year, Jack dresses up as “Sandy Claws” as he and his ghost dog Zero bring ghoulish delights from Halloween Town to visit Disneyland Park. This year’s Haunted Mansion Holiday beckons guests from Sept. 3-Oct. 31, 2021
One of Jack’s holiday traditions is leaving a special treat for the ghosts who dance around the Haunted Mansion’s Grand Hall. The annual centerpiece for this “waltz of the weird” is always a massive, creepy gingerbread creation. With each year, Jack delivers new and thrilling surprises. The Ghost Host of Haunted Mansion Holiday says, “even a gingerbread house can be scary,” and this year’s design lives up to that description. For the 2021 mansion, designers went to the graveyard to reincarnate elements from all 19 previous years. An aspect from each year was stitched together to create the 2021 version, a Dr. Finkelstein-esque mashup.
At California Adventure, guests are in for a scary treat as the Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout attraction transforms into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. The chaos of creatures on the loose and Rocket scheming to save Groot adds to the high-energy action, only during Halloween Time.
Over at Epcot Space 220 is set to lift off in mid-September, located between mission: space and test track space 220 starts with a ride aboard a “space elevator” transporting you 220 miles above the earth, for an out of this work dining experience – with a view that is, Out of this world. The upscale, contemporary fare will bring new meaning to “the height of dining!”

Disney Resorts premiered the first commercial for the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. Set to open in spring of 2022, this first-of-its-kind vacation experience will introduce “Story-Living,”. During this two day immersive experience, you live your star wars adventure.

The west side of Disney Springs is buzzing once again; the Cirque De Soleil “Drawn to life” is set to reopen on Nov. 18… with tickets already on sale.
Drawn to Life is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Imagineering. The show is about the love between a father and a daughter with a story inspired by Disney’s 100-year heritage of animation. The family-friendly show brings timeless Disney stories and characters to life in an unforgettable way using innovative design, acrobatic performances, dazzling choreography, musical scores, and brand new animations.
Construction of the Disney Wish, the latest Disney cruise lines ship, continues in Germany. The Bridge or Wheelhouse of the vessel was recently installed, Along with the last piece of the bow of the ship giving the Wish its identity. The Disney Wish is scheduled to make its Maiden voyage in June 2022.
Disney Cruise Lines also unveiled the new Disney uncharted Adventure, the first of its’ kind interactive experience. The experience will lead guests on a journey from bow to stern and beyond the stars onboard the Disney wish. Captain Minnie Mouse will help you prepare for the trip by highlighting the important role of the night sky in seafaring. Once onboard, you will use your spyglass to reveal never-before-seen views of the stars above, where enchanted constellations take shape as recognizable icons from Disney and Pixar stories. Along the way, you will join the heroic characters who inhabit each destination on a mission to find the star fragment: Moana, Tiana, Tinker Bell will help on the journey and you’ll get to dive into the EAC with Nemo and friends.
