Marvel’s Disney+ Original Series “MoonKnight” Trailer and Poster Released!
If you watched the end credits scene for Marvel’s “Eternals,” you know that a new character is jumping off the comic book pages on to the screen.
Moon Knight!
The new series will premiere on Disney+ March 30th. Oscar Isaac will play Marc Spector.
He is an ex-soldier with a case of dissociative identity disorder. The disorder manifests as fully distinct individuals. Marc Spector becomes connected to the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, which only further exaggerates Marc’s anxiety over his mental illness.
In the trailer, we see that Marc can’t tell the difference between his normal life and his dreams. He’s playing with a Rubik’s cube, he’s unable to fall asleep, he jumps out of bed in a panic with his foot chained to his bed (he forgets he restrained himself the night before). He visits a museum on ancient Egypt (unsure if he works there of not), he sees a vision of Khonshu. We also see the villain who is played by Ethan Hawke. He is a cult leader who encourages Marc to “embrace the chaos.” The trailer ends with Marc becoming Moon Knight and we see a fight scene where Moon Knight is beating someone up on a bathroom floor.
If you are not a comic book reader then Moon Knight is pretty unknown. Based on the Marvel Comics this is what we know.
Marc Spector is a former Marine and CIA operative. He becomes a mercenary. During a mercenary job, he comes in contact with fellow mercenary Raoul Bushman. Marc Spector fights and is defeated by Bushman. The dying Spector is brought into a unearthed tomb for shelter. His is placed in front of a statue of Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Spector seems to die but then suddenly revives, fully healed. He claims Khonshu wants him to be the “moon’s knight.” Marc Spector’s life is now full of violence by now protecting and avenging the innocent. In most of his comic story arcs, Moon Knight has no supernatural abilities beyond occasional visions of mystical insight. He relies on his athletic ability, intelligence, advanced technology, and combat skills. For a time, Moon Knight’s strength could reach superhuman levels depending on the phases of the moon, but this ability later vanished.
We’ll have to wait until March 30th to see how much of the Disney+ Original Series will follow the comics that inspired it. Are you excited for this new series?
