Merchandise Spot: Mickey Mouse Main Attraction line found in the parks!
Oh hi, it’s me, guest writer, Heather, your new merchandise release rope dropper!
Yesterday, I somehow had the energy to get up at 7 am and head to meet a friend at Saratoga Springs. We both happily walked the 15 minutes to the security checkpoint at Disney Springs, all in search of the elusive…and imminently dropping…Mickey Mouse Main Attraction line!
For those not familiar with the inspiration behind the collection, a couple of years ago Minnie Mouse Main Attraction was launched. This monthly release featured our favorite polka-dotted mouse Minnie and some of the most well-loved attractions in a merchandise line including a Loungefly bag, pin, headband, and plush. Now, they have made a matching collection for Mickey, Mickey Mouse: The Main Attraction!
We are always fearful of long lines for merchandise.
Luckily, we were ahead of the game and my friend and I moved through the empty Disney Springs and right to the front of the line at the back of the World of Disney. We were FIRST. That has NEVER happened. I took a pic to prove that I was there and then watched as the line behind us quickly grew further and further back. Now, Disney has been trying a few approaches to lower the line attendance, one being releasing two big merch launches at the same time. Monday was no different. They also released the Lily Pulitzer collection and a Vera Bradley line featuring Ariel (The Little Mermaid). We were okay missing those and waited for the next hour before Disney Springs even officially opened.
This time, things were much smoother, besides the obvious benefit of being first in line. World of Disney set up tables with all of the Space Mountain-themed items stacked neatly like little Pixie Dust soldiers. We were each able to grab two of each (the Loungefly mini backpack, headband, key, and pin were available but the plush had not arrived in stock yet) if we wanted. Then, we had the option to either use the Mobile Shopping option (using My Disney Experience and making life easier for the masses) or check out at the register.
As we jumped for joy, we headed out of Disney Springs and stopped at Earl of Sandwich for a celebratory breakfast!
I then had a few hours to kill and was able to get into Magic Kingdom. I had heard rumors that the items were also in park, so I wanted to get the scoop, because a journalist’s job is never done! And, low and behold, the entire line was there too. Many passersby had no clue what the launch was, and I witnessed several parents asking their kids if they wanted something. I even engaged in a conversation with a mom trying to teach her young daughter budgeting, going over what she had in her “balance” after spending money on some earrings and a plush. I let her know that this would be a great add-on lesson on investment…as the first release of the past collections (2021 being Stitch Crashes Disney) is always highly sought after, with the matching Minnie set for Space Mountain now being sold for $500-$1500 depending on what piece. She quickly grabbed the whole line.
Needless to say, I will do my best to try and collect the rest of the collection this year. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be cheap…but I will still follow Yoda’s advice, “Do or do not, there is no try.”
Mickey Mouse Main Attraction will launch both in parks and on shopdisney.com monthly. The collection will follow the same attractions as Minnie Mouse Main Attraction.
