My Epic Solo Flights on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run!

Hey there, fellow Star Wars enthusiasts and Disney Nerds! I’ve just had the most incredible experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and I simply HAVE to share it with you all. Buckle up, because this story is about to make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs!

The Magic of the Single Rider Line

Solo flight on the falcon disney nerds

First things first, let me introduce you to the unsung hero of this tale: the single rider line. For those who don’t know, this is a special line for solo travelers or groups who don’t mind being split up. It’s often much shorter than the regular line, and it helps fill empty seats on rides. As a solo traveler that day, it was my secret weapon for maximizing my time in the park.

An Unexpected Journey

So there I was, getting ready to begin my ride marathon, as I approached Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. I joined the single rider line, expecting to be paired up with other guests. But as I reached the main line, something magical happened – there was no one else there!

The Cast Member looked at me, smiled, and said those fateful words: “Looks like you’ve got the whole ship to yourself, pilot!”

Flying Solo on the Fastest Hunk of Junk in the Galaxy

I couldn’t believe my luck! I stepped into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon – THE Millennium Falcon! – and for a moment, I was overwhelmed. The controls, the lights, the soft beeping of the console… it was like stepping into the movies.  And I was Pilot, first time in a long time.  Only had time to take the two quick pics.

As the ride began, I found myself frantically trying to manage all the positions at once. Piloting, gunning, engineering – it was chaotic, exhilarating, and absolutely unforgettable. I was laughing, shouting, and having the time of my life as I steered us through asteroid fields and battled Imperial forces.

Second Time’s the Charm

But wait, it gets better! When the ride ended, I almost ran off the ride to get in line again and my luck was still holding.  The Cast Member noticed how much fun I’d had and asked if I wanted to go again. Are you kidding me? OF COURSE I DID!  I asked what the hold-up was on the main line and the Cast Members did not know.

The second run was even better. This time, I knew what to expect and could focus on really nailing each role. I felt like a true smuggler, outwitting the First Order and bringing home the loot for Hondo.

A Dream Come True for a Star Wars Fan

As a lifelong Star Wars fan, this experience was nothing short of a dream come true. The attention to detail in the ride, from the worn metal panels of the Falcon to the view of hyperspace out the cockpit window, is simply breathtaking. Disney has outdone themselves in bringing this iconic ship to life.

The Magic of Solo Travel at Disney

While I was at Hollywood Studios by myself that day, I never felt alone. The energy of the park, the kindness of the Cast Members, and the shared excitement with fellow guests made it a truly magical experience. And sometimes, like with my double solo flight on the Falcon, being alone opens up unexpected opportunities!

We shared this ride on Episode # 545 of the Disney Nerds Podcast and it was fun.  Here is the link, it’s one of the first things I talk about…of course:

So, if you’re considering a solo trip to Disney, or if you’re a Star Wars fan who hasn’t yet experienced Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run, take it from me – it’s an absolute must-do. May the Force be with you, and may you too get lucky with an empty Falcon ride.

Hello all! I have been going to WDW since 1976 and can't count the number of trips along with some cruises. I love all things Disney, from the parks to the studios to the history of what made the Walt Disney Company what it is...Walt himself.
