Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon H20 Glow Party
Hi ya everybody! I was lucky enough to be asked by The Disney Nerds to attend the H20 Glow party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon this past Saturday. Free tickets to the park during the day with lunch, and free tickets to the H20 Glow Party all thanks to Disney Parks…twist my arm why don’t you! As a local, we love to spend our summers at Typhoon Lagoon. It’s much cooler, trust me. Below are a few highlights from the day and night.
We started the day with a meet and greet with the General Manager Mark and Chef Hal. Mark discussed the fact that this was their first separately ticketed water park event, and judging by the ticket sales what a great response it was. This event will run on Thursday’s and Saturday’s through August 11, 2018. The cost of the ticket is $50.00/child and $55.00/adult. We asked if there would be a similar event held at Blizzard Beach he advised us, “…not now because there is no lighting at Blizzard Beach”. Then we asked if they were planning on any more events like this in the future, like a holiday party or things like that. He said, “…because the Florida weather is so unpredictable, planning something like that would prove to be difficult”, but that is not a no, it’s a we’ll see. Mark did mention that they were exploring the possibility of having an adult section of the park. He discussed the fact that the cruise line has an adult only section of each ship and it’s packed. In my opinion, that would round out the park with a section for everyone. They have a kiddie section, a family section, and now possibly an adult section. It will have something for everyone. Because, as we all know, not just families visit Disney. Ever seen the bride and groom mickey ears everywhere?
After Mark spoke, Chef Hal did a presentation of the foods created for Glow nights, but are available at the different restaurants permanently. There were some scrumptious selections. One would think that you would have typical park food especially at a water park; right? Wrong! There were selections like salmon, chicken and rice bowls, and gelato cookies. Chef Hal said the chicken and rice bowls were actually the best seller at the water park. He said that they smoke all of their meat in house, as well as, use all of the fresh local ingredients in their restaurants.
Now, on to the night time show! The first thing I will say is that I wish Typhoon Lagoon was open at night during the season. The park is simply breathtaking at night with all of the foliage and the lights on the water. I would be there all the time if it were. Night time at the park is so relaxing, especially during the scorching summer months. Although, I do have to say that there are many places to get out of the sun during the day at Typhoon Lagoon as well. But you don’t have to look for those places at night. The Thiel family, (Frank, Heidi, Kaitlynn and Karson), joined me for the party. There was a DJ and the cast members danced with the guests. There were hula-hoops and all sorts of fun stuff to do. Woody, Jesse, and Buzz were also on hand to take pictures. While we were “working,” we did take advantage of the shorter lines for the rides. We rode the Crush and Gusher, and the new family ride Miss Adventure Falls. Frank and Karson rode the Humunga Kowabunga. The girls decided not to do this as we like our bathing suits in tact. All of these attractions were basically a walk-on! SCORE! As we walked around the park doing live feeds and taking pictures, we really got an appreciation for the beauty of the park as well as explored different sections. I had to pay homage to my favorite attraction that is not there anymore, The Shark Reef, which was a huge pool (cold), that you could get a snorkel and swim with the sharks and different fish. I’m not a strong swimmer, but I loved this attraction. Mark actually stated that this was the least visited attraction in the park. They’ve turned the building that you used to get the gear at into a bar, and there are beach loungers. Great hidden away spot for an adult section. So, if you’re visiting from out of town through August 11th you should consider going on one of the nights. If you’re a local, no reason you couldn’t be there. This gives us locals a chance to not have to fight the Disney crowds.
In closing I’d like to first thank Disney for the free tickets and lunch, and secondly The Disney Nerds for trusting us to represent them at this wonderful event. We had a great time doing what we love!
