Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Released Today
I’m not sure if there’s any trailer and show in the Star Wars canon that’s as highly anticipated as Disney+’s Original “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
The trailer was released today and all I can say is, “Is it May 25th yet?”
The series will begin 10 years after “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” Obi-Wan Kenobi is still dealing with the results at the end of the film. We find Obi-Wan on Tatooine. He’s keeping a watchful eye on Luke from afar. But you can sense that not only is he is living in an exile-like life but he’s still broken by what happened with Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin is now Darth Vader and he is ruling the Empire. Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66 was issued in “Revenge of the Sith” so Vader has Inquisitors are out searching for Jedi. This means that Obi-Wan has to keep himself safe as well as the young Luke Skywalker.
Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He recently told Forbes:
“Deborah Chow directed all the episodes and she’s really good. She directed a couple [episodes] of The Mandalorian and she’s a really great director. She really knows the Star Wars world, inside out, far more than I do. We just had a great time. I think it’s no secret that Hayden Christensen comes back and we got to play scenes together again as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and it was just fantastic to work with him again. I’m not going to give away anything else about the storyline, only I think it’s really going to satisfy Star Wars fans. I always felt there was a story between Episode III where I finished playing Obi-Wan in the movies and Episode IV where Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi. The [Obi-Wan Kenobi series] writers and Deb and I and everyone, I think we crafted or they crafted a very fine storyline. I think people are going to like it.”
Since we already knew Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen were coming back to their roles. Who else is in the cast?
Also announced for the cast are Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse. They reprise their prequel roles of Luke’s adoptive parents: Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru of the Lars moisture farm. Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie also join the cast. Legendary composer John Williams has also returned to create the main theme song. Ewan McGregor and Director Deborah Chow are executive producers along with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, and Joby Harold.
