Disney Nerds Break Down The Disneyland Hotel

I stayed at The Disneyland Hotel this past spring and thought we should break down what I observed during my short trip.

Appearance

Theme of room was gorgeous and elevated Disneyland. The carpet had hidden Mickeys and fireworks. The headboard featured Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in carved wood with a bedside lamp that played music. The art around the room featured photos of early Disneyland and Walt. Additional hidden Mickeys could be found in the bathroom vanity lights and lamp shades.

Although Adventure Tower is the original tower, it was recently renovated and gorgeous.

Everything was very clean and in working order

Although the decor featured dark carpet and dark wood tones, the room length window let in plenty of light.

Hotel Lobby

Hotel Lobby is pretty unassuming. Upon arrival, guests pull up off the busy main road through a small parking lot and are greeted by an outdoor desk. A large navy rug with Disneyland Hotel scrolled across it leads you into the open air entry where you can check your luggage or sit in an modern, oversized, outdoor sofa flanked by tropical landscaping. Inside the sliding doors is a long, perpendicular hallway. To the left is the main desk and a gift shop and another hallway that will lead you to the courtyard. The hotel is made up of 4 rectangular buildings. Fantasy Tower which features the convention Center and the main lobby. Adventure Tower is the closest to the entrance of Downtown Disney and Trader Sam’s. Frontier Tower and Discovery Tower are the furthest from Downtown Disney. Discovery Tower includes DVC rooms and their own pool. All 4 buildings surround a courtyard which features 3 pools, hot tubs, and Trader Sam’s.

Restaurants

  • Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar. Get a reservation early or check the app to join the walk up list, which lists expected wait times. If you can’t get into Trader Sam’s, mobile order or walk up to the adjacent Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar and Grill. Many of the appetizers from Trader Sam’s are available here.
  • The Coffee House features Mobile Order Goofy’s Kitchen is served buffet style and features character dining for breakfast and dinner. Advanced reservations are recommended.
  • Palm Breeze Bar is an American restaurant that features vegetarian options. Check the app for walk up wait times if you didn’t grab a reservation ahead of time.
  • Downtown Disney is steps away and features a variety of sit down and quick service restaurants, dessert and snack locations, and placed to grab a drink.

Pool and Outdoor Areas

Pool and Outdoor Areas feature 4 pools and smaller hot tubs throughout. One of the pools includes water slides. The entire pool area is surrounded in tropical foliage.

MagicBand+

Magic Band+ does not work to access your room or hotel security gates. I needed the help of the front desk Cast Member to help me unlink my Magic Band + from Walt Disney World and link it to the Disneyland App. They cannot be linked across both apps at the same time. Disneyland App also requires you to link each ticket individually. For example, I had a 2 day park ticket and a Star Wars party ticket. I could only have 1 ticket active on my Magic Band + at one time. Activating them on the app is easy but a necessary step before getting to the turnstiles.

Tips

When you arrive, be sure to get an activities guide from the lobby. Throughout the day, you can enjoy activities like yoga, paddle boarding, cycling, and power walking, some for an additional fee. If your looking for educational activities, try a one of the tours or a learn to class. During the week I visited, you could learn to play the ukulele, draw, Polynesian dance, or make a ribbon lei.

Unwind your evenings with a movie over at Pixar Place Hotel. Unwind at The Tanya Stone Spa where you can enjoy body treatments, massages, and salon services.

Transportation to park Quick and easy walk to both parks through Downtown Disney. I set my alarm for 7:50, woke up, got dressed, left the hotel, went through security, walked through Downtown Disney, proceeded through the turnstiles and was on Main Street by 8:17. Apple Maps says it’s a 10 minute walk.

Disneyland Hotel guests can enjoy 30 minutes of early entry each day of their stay at either Disneyland or DCA. Check the App or the hotel Activities Guide for the schedule. During my trip, DCA had early entry on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Disneyland had early entry on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Staying at The Disneyland Hotel was a wonderful experience. It a piece of not just Disneyland history but Disney history. I would recommend anyone going to Disneyland to stay there at least once to experience it.
