This Week at Studios – November 21st 2017
Welcome to the second edition of our weekly walk around the Studios to see what’s new this week.
The biggest news remains the Star Tours attraction with two new planets (Crait and Batuu) added to the rider rotation. For more in-depth coverage of what you can expect on this great attraction, please check out my previous article “Lightspeed to Crait”.
On the south side of Echo Lake, near the Path of the Jedi, there is a new Disney Vacation Club information center. The DVC information center near Sci-Fi is still there for now.
At the popular Backlot Express restaurant near Star Tours, you will see a Pterodactyl head hanging from the ceiling in the left corner room right when you walk into the main entrance of the restaurant. What are the chances this came from the recently closed Universe of Energy attraction at Epcot?
Walt Disney Presents has two new features to enjoy. First, at the Disneyland display, there now is an integrated TV screen that has b-roll footage of the Disneyland Train, Fantasmic, and other attractions. Second, the temporary inside shop that is near the theatre entrance now has Walt Disney Merchandise. The mugs and t-shirts have been on sale in the park for a while.
Step over to Star Wars Launch Bay and you may be tempted by some new merchandise this week. New Last Jedi pop figures, including Rey and the Storm Trooper Executioner, are awaiting you at $14.99 each. There are also brand new motion picture costumes on display (and for purchase) from the new movie. These items start off at $169.00 and up. Last, you will see a life-size Yoda for sale that sits behind the counter. With a price tag of $2,800, you may need to cash in on the bounty posted for Han Solo by Jabba!
In the Reel Vogue store on Sunset Blvd, Coco merchandise runs plentiful inside. As you can see in the pictures below, there are clothing, plush animals, and figurines of all the characters. And all at typical Disney prices.
As you step out of this store and look on top of the building, you will notice the billboard promoting Paradise Pier. Needless to say, it has a very “Disney California Adventure” feel as it encourages you to take the trolley car… maybe a sign of things to come in the future?
Last, cross the street and walk into the Carthay Circle and you will spot a new holiday ornament display offering those brand new Haunted Mansion Christmas ornaments.
Well….thanks for taking a walk with me today with all the new things I noticed this week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Please be sure to check out my friends at Once Upon a Time Travel. You will find them the best travel agency out there for all your Disney and Orlando travel needs.
