A Disney Nerds Review of The Polite Pig

Hi ya folks! The foodie in me is back with a review of The Polite Pig at Disney Springs. First note is the amazing placement of this restaurant, right at the bottom of the escalators of the parking garage. If you are on the first or second floor, right as you get out of your car you can smell that smoke and your taste buds start watering immediately.

We walked in and took a look at the menu; it’s a typical BBQ house fare.  But there was one interesting option on the back wall.  It was all kinds of drinks on TAP.  I had to do a double take on that wall.  The alcoholic in me wanted to try every one of those drinks.  I mean you expect to see beer on tap, but this place has wine, beer, as well as other options such as gin and tonic, vodka lemonade, sweet tea old-fashioned. Honestly, I’ve never seen this before.

My husband and I both struggle with trying to balance our diet and eating out.  I know that sounds like an oxymoron but it really can be done.  But that is another post for another time.  We do like to get shareable items.  Today we opted for the butcher board.  This says enough for 2, but there was so much I think it was enough for 3-4.

This plate came with pork shoulder, smoked chicken, brisket, and bbq cheddar sausage with 2 cole slaws, and 2 sides and 2 servings of corn-bread.  We added the ribs for $6.00.  Because, who can not get ribs.  The cost of the board without the ribs was $39.00.   We got the roasted beets, and crispy brussel sprouts.  The roasted beets came with a smoked pecan granola and goat cheese and orange slices.

We ordered our food and then found a table.  This place is crowded most of the time, so finding a table may take a little time. But the wait staff is really friendly and helped us find a table.  There are 4 dispensers that have different flavors of BBQ sauce; of course, we had to try them all.  There was a BBQ Ranch, Thomas’s SouthernGold, Layla’s Sweet Sauce, and Signature Black Pepper BBQ Sauce.  My favorite was the sweet sauce, but they were all tasty.  They also had Fresno chili sauce (HOT) and spiced vinegar.

If you like BBQ, you’ll love this place.  My husband had competed on the BBQ circuit, and he loved this.  He says it was pretty good.  As for me, I thought it was good.  It’s not one of my favorites, but I would do it again.  Disney Springs has a lot of great food options.  In order for a place to compete is it has to knock your socks off.  In the end, this one just did not knock our socks off.  But as I said, it was good…not great.
