The Story Leading up to Kingdom Hearts III

In 2002, SQUARE ENIX and Disney partnered up to release a video game called Kingdom Hearts. This is the first game of the series. You play as a character named Sora, who lives on an island with his two friends, Kairi and Riku. You are taken along his journey to fight the antagonist, Xehanort, from taking over the Kingdom Hearts. Sora meets Donald and Goofy in the beginning of the game. Sora learns that Donald and Goofy work with King Mickey, who is trying to find out why the heartless are appearing. From then on, they go from world to world to stop the heartless from taking over. Sora is chosen to wield a key-blade, he uses it to fight against the darkness. The key-blade is the only way to defeat the heartless. If the heartless defeat you, you then, become a heartless.

Most of the worlds Sora goes to are Disney themed. There is Wonderland, 100 Acre Wood, Halloween Town, and more. You learn that Maleficent is the leader of the Disney Villains. The villains work together with the heartless to defeat Sora.

In Kingdom Hearts II the journey to defeat Xehanort continues. This is his second attempt to take over Kingdom Hearts. In this game, start off as playing as Sora’s “Nobody”, Roxas. Sora and Roxas must merge to awake Sora. You also meet a group called Organization XIII. This group is composed of “Nobodies” who are apart of Xehanort’s plan. The final boss in the game is one of Organization XIII leaders, Xemnas. Sora and Riku come together and defeat Xemnas at the end of the game.

Kingdom Hearts III picks up where the last game left off. Sora has to remember all his abilities to defeat Xehanort once more. This time he meets new friends along the way.

Players have been waiting since 2005 for Kingdom Hearts III, which finally released on Tuesday January 30th of this year.

What is new to the series is that Pixar movies are now in the game. Originally, SQUARE ENIX was not given the rights to use any characters from Pixar movies. It is a theory that the delay in kingdom hearts III releasing is due to wanting to rights to include Pixar movie characters.

Kingdom Hearts consists of many side games to fill in the gaps of the main series. I highly recommend any Disney fan to give this game a try. It’s never too late to join the fandom!  And, stay tuned for a full game review…I can’t wait to see what experiences they have planned for us with KH III.
