The World Famous Dapper Dans of Disneyland

One of the truly magical and most nostalgic of the entertainment offered at the Magic Kingdom, whether east or west, are the Dapper Dan’s.  Walt Disney World and Disneyland Dapper Dans music barbershop Disney Nerds PodcastThis is the turn-of-the-century Barbershop Quartet that finds their home on Main Street and always gather a crowd when they perform.   They can be found anywhere on Main Street but it looks like in Disneyland, they have a small area set aside for them to perform.  I assume, but the sign and the Piano player was a giveaway.  This is located down Main Street on the left, right past the Coca Cola store in the Corner Café.  Very similar to Casey’s Corner of WDW in most respects.  A great place to get a drink or some food and take a break.  Having the Dapper Dan’s show up and begin was a greatly appreciated bonus.  During their show they interact with the crowd as they sing a lot of the standard Barbershop songs:

“Yankee Doodle Dandy”
“Strolling Through the Park”
“Mr. Sandman”
“If You’re Happy and You Know It”
“Zip-a-Dee Doo Dah”

And many more.  Along with the great song library, The Dan’s would have a variety of talents in addition to the singing.  A favorite instrument is the Organ Chime.  Think “Mr. Sand Man” as to what those chimes might sound like.  Also, I was surprised by another talent that I had not seen up until our trip to Disneyland.  They Tap Dance!  It was a really fun show!

The WDW Dapper Dans

You know, it feels wrong without touching base with the East Coast Dapper Dans.  Unlike their Disneyland counterparts, the guys from WDW are all over the place with no real home other than keeping close to Main Street.  We’ve stopped to watch at all different places along Main Street.

The best part about buying a ticket to any Disney Park in the World is that you get so much more than just rides.  The entertainment factor is definitely the plus that puts Disney over the top time and time again.  Between the Dan’s and the other walking around musicians in all of the parks and Disney Springs, there have to be at least a hundred of these acts.  Off the top of my head, Mulch Sweat and Shears in Epcot Future World, Carol the Piano Lady at the Rose and Crown and the Main Street Philharmonic in the Magic Kingdom.  The Harpist across from “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” in the Animal Kingdom and the many, many musical acts at Disney Springs and last but not least or the last, Yeeha Bob Jackson over at the River Roost and many more.

Ed Mazzilli

Hello all! I have been going to WDW since 1976 and can't count the number of trips along with some cruises. I love all things Disney, from the parks to the studios to the history of what made the Walt Disney Company what it is...Walt himself.
