New “Cinderella Pony” at Walt Disney World Resort
There’s a new member of Cinderella’s family at Walt Disney World! Her name is Lilly and she’s one of Cinderella’s Ponies!
Lilly was born in March and named after Walt Disney’s wife. She is the first Shetland pony ever born at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Her mother is “Lady” and her father is “Ferdinand” and they are both Shetland Ponies.
Why are Shetland Ponies important to Cinderella? They are the ponies that pull her iconic pumpkin coach for parades at the Magic Kingdom and for Disney’s Fairytale Weddings.
Right now, Lilly is currently making appearances in the show pasture near the barn at Fort Wilderness but just for a few hours each day. When Lilly turns two, she’ll begin training to pull Cinderella’s magical couch. Once she’s trained, she could make her debut as a part of the team a year later.
There is a team of 35 ranch hands that care for Lilly and the 90 other horses and ponies that support the daily operation of carriage, wagon, pony, and trail rides at Walt Disney World. Personally, I’m very happy they are there to take care of these animals that help bring the magic to the parks!
