Help The Lion King ‘Protect the Pride’ Campaign
Next month will bring us the release of Disney’s “The Lion King!” As a part of celebrating the release of it, Disney’s Animal Kingdom wants to help bring attention and support the conservation of lion and other wildlife in Africa.
25 years old, the original or animated version of “The Lion King” was released. Unfortunately, during the past 25 years, Africa has lost half of its lions. Only about 20,000 lions remain.
In June, Disney announced that its commitment to help with this crisis facing lions and other wildlife in Africa. They will be supporting the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund (LRF). They are calling this campaign, The Lion King “Protect the Pride” campaign. Already, Disney has donated more than $1.5 million to LRF and its partners. They will also make additional grants and invite fans to help double the donation. They are hoping by doubling the donations of up to $3 million that they also double the number of lions in the wild by 2050.
Take a look at the amazing video from the cast of “The Lion King” in support of this effort:
There’s one way that guests at Walt Disney World can help with this cause. That is to head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and ride Kilimanjaro Safaris during the opening week of “The Lion King” (July 19th-25th).
Disney Conservation Fun will donate $2 (up to $35,000) to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s LRF for every guest that rides Kilimanjaro Safaris that week!
If you can’t make it to Animal Kingdom that week, you can also do your part by purchasing special-edition products as a part of The Lion King “Protect the Pride” campaign. Check out these adorable Simba and Nala Stuffed Animals!
This campaign will continue Disney’s longstanding commitment to the conservation of wildlife around the world. Disney’s donation to FRF represents the largest single gift Disney has made to help reserve to decline of a species. Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has directed over $75 million to help save wildlife and protect this planet. We spoke about the Disney Conservation Fund in a previous article, click here for more information about their cause.
