Golfing at Walt Disney World
Stuck at home? Bored to death? Sniping at family members who chew too loud? Yep, that describes me to a T!
I was thinking of what my friends and family could do that has an acceptable form of social distancing, but just get out of the house. My husband and, fellow Disney Nerd, Lisa have been getting out of the house by playing golf at the Disney courses. So that settles it, I can go too! Not to play golf, but just be around people, keeping social distancing in mind. SCORE! My husband called for a tee time and off we went. The gang was able to play a round of golf at the beautiful Magnolia golf course, while Lisa’s wife, Angela, and I drove the carts.
There are 4 courses at Disney; Disney’s Magnolia, Disney’s Palm Golf Course, Lake Buena Vista Golf course, and Oak Trail golf course.
I was pleasantly surprised when we got there they were sterilizing the golf carts. There are restrictions in place when playing in a group that you can only share a cart if you live in the same household. There were 7 of us. My husband and I had one cart. Lisa and her wife had one cart. We had 2 other people with us and they each had their own cart.
Disney’s Magnolia golf course is the largest of the four courses. Magnolia is closest to the Magic Kingdom, actually at the Shades of Green resort. This course is part of the PGA tours at Walt Disney World played each year. There are 97 bunkers on this course (which I later found out are the sandpits or sand traps). This is the course we played yesterday and let’s just say a few of them got their balls in the bunkers. As this was the first course I’ve ever been on, I have to say the grounds are beautiful. The only pictures I have to share today are from this course.
Disney’s Oak Trail is located by the Magnolia Golf Course. It is a 9- hole, Par 36 walking course. We actually saw this course yesterday and it was crowded, but again with acceptable social distancing.
Disney’s Palm Golf course is touted as the most difficult of the WDW courses. It is also located close to Magnolia. There are 94 bunkers. This course is played each year as well as a part of the PGA Tours of WDW.
Lake Buena Vista Golf course is located near Disney Springs. This is the favorite among the players in our group yesterday. This course is one of only a few that has actually hosted a PGA tournament. Watch out for the 7th hole, it is on an island green to shoot on that will challenge any golfer.
