EPCOT Facts Every Disney Nerd Should Know!

Disney’s EPCOT offers culture from around the world at arms length. Disney Imagineers went above and beyond when creating this breath taking park. Let’s go over some interesting facts you might not know about this beloved park!

Spaceship Earth

Spaceship Earth catches your eye the moment you enter the park. This iconic structure took 26 months for Imagineers to complete. There is a total of 11,520 tringles in this great sphere making the total weight 16 MILLION pounds! Imagineers also designed a drainage system so that the water running off Spaceship Earth actually ends up in the World Showcase lagoon.

Eiffel Tower

When walking around the World Showcase, you will notice the Eiffel Tower sticking out behind the France pavilion. Did you know it is only 103 feet tall? That’s a 1/10 scale of the original! Imagineers designed this replica wider at the bottom and narrow at the top to give you the illusion that it is taller than it actually is. Imagineering at its finest. This formula was also used in making the buildings around World Showcase to make these seem taller than they are.

Now, this ride is not for the faint of heart. Thankfully Disney thought one step ahead for the guests when it comes to motion sickness. There is an Orange team and a Green team you can pick format the beginning. This gives you an option to choose an experience with or without aggressive motion. If you select the more intense experience, you will go through 2.5 g’s. NASA Astronauts and engineers helped designed this ride to give visitors the closest experience to authentic space flight. How cool is that?
