Going to Walt Disney World While Expecting!

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing more magical than being at Disney World while you are expecting.

So, you ask yourself… can I go to Disney while pregnant?

First thing is you need to get your doctor’s approval.

I made sure I discussed my trip ahead of time with my doctor and got their ok. Remember, every pregnancy is different. Everyone expereiences things differently which is why it is very important to get your doctor’s approval.

Let’s not forget the fact there is a lot of walking at Walt Disney World, even when you’re not pregnant. Personally, I went at the beginning of my second trimester. 14 weeks to be exact. I also kept the time of year in mind as well. Pregnancy and 95 degree weather do not mix well if you are not use to heat. If you are experiencing extreme nausea and vomiting, it might be worth waiting more into your second trimester. Again, discuss with your doctor about going to Disney before booking your trip.

So, given the green light to go?

Great! As my own experience goes, I went at the beginning of May for our trip. The heat was not too bad and the gentle breeze helped greatly. We walked an average of 7 to 8 miles each day of our 7 day trip.

When it comes to going to the parks, do not burn yourself out! Stop and take breaks once an hour or so. There’s nothing like snacking on a Mickey pretzel and people watching while hearing the music on Main Street USA. I also recommend taking mid day breaks! Find a nice place to relax in the parks, book that table service dining or even go check out a near by resort. Options like these helped me continue through the night for fireworks!

Many rest breaks helped make it enjoyable. In addition to park breaks, don’t forget non park rest days. Make sure to plan resort days to unwind by the pool or take a shopping trip to Disney Springs while you take a day off from the parks.

Rides

As for rides, no Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, Test Track, etc. For this trip you will need to stick to the less “thrilling” rides such as Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and Spaceship Earth. The My Disney Experience app is a great source of information. I was able to verify which rides are pregnancy safe! Just click on the ride you’re interested in and scroll down to the restrictions.

Packing Before The Trip

Another thing to keep in mind is when it comes to packing. As cute as some of your pre-pregnancy outfits are, stick to the comfortable clothes! Trust me! With the walking, comfortable shoes and clothes are a MUST. If you want to get some cute maternity photos, pack an extra pair of comfy clothes in your bag and change after the photos!

Picture Time

Speaking of photos, I HIGHLY recommend getting Disney’s Photopass. You can also go to the Disney website and book your Capture Your Moment session for special one on one time with a photographer! These book up fast, so as soon as your book your trip I recommend booking this experience.

From the cast members to Mickey and Minnie themselves, they all make your baby-moon as magical as can be! You can ask guest services for a celebration button and put Mommy to be! You might even get pixie dusted by a cast member! Nothing is better than sitting in front of the castle knowing next time you go, your little one will be right there with you.

I highly recommend going if you are given the green light. Just make sure you pack comfortably and take things slow and you will enjoy it all the same. For help booking your trip, contact Welcome Home Travel Co for a fee free booking with Disney experts!
