“Harmonious,” one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney park.  While the technology, including pyrotechnics, choreographed moving fountains, lighting, massive LED panels, and media are impressive, it’s the music that pulls the story together.  The show features new interpretations of classic Disney songs in more than a dozen languages, performed by a diverse group of 240 artists from around the world, including Luis Fonsi, Joy, Danny Gokey, and the Ndlovu Youth Choir.
I spent some time with Clint Clarke, Audio Designer for Disney Parks Live Entertainment.  We talked about the impact of music and the process of Designing the Audio for one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created in a Disney park.

Disney fans and those who love all things vintage will be eager to unlock the Vault Collection that pays tribute to 50 years of Walt Disney World magic with an assortment of retro-themed designs right out of the Walt Disney Archives.

New daytime entertainment is stirring at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, as “Disney KiteTails” comes alive several times daily beginning Oct. 1 at the Discovery River Theater. Performers fly windcatchers and kites of all shapes and sizes, while out on the water elaborate three-dimensional kites – some stretching to 30 feet long – depict Disney animal friends, including Simba, Zazu, Baloo, and King Louie. These colorful creations dance through the sky to the beat of favorite Disney songs in an uplifting, vibrant experience for the whole family.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale – otherwise known as the “EARidescent 8” – dress in sparkling new looks, custom-made for this special occasion. Highlights of these celebratory designs include beautifully embroidered impressions of Cinderella Castle backed by fireworks, as well as a brocade in multi-toned, EARidescent fabric – all punctuated with pops of gold. Disney characters will also make appearances at Disney Resort hotels, dressed in their EARidescent best.

Beacons of Magic | Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary

Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” has begun. The 18 month-long event brings new attractions, nighttime spectaculars, and other magical experiences to Walt Disney World resort. Shining at the center of it all is Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park, welcoming guests with gleaming gold bunting, sparkling golden embellishments.

During the 50th-anniversary celebration, all of Walt Disney World’s theme parks icons transform at night into Beacons of Magic, each coming to life with their unique EARidescent glow. Cinderella Castle illuminates Magic Kingdom Park with a dazzling radiance and pixie-dust sparkle. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a warm light emanates from the Tree of Life as fireflies gather to usher in the magic of nature. The Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is awash in brilliance, evoking the golden age of imagination and adventure. And at EPCOT, new lights shine across the reflective panels of Spaceship Earth, connecting like stars in a nighttime sky and creating a mesmerizing symbol of optimism. The iconic structure’s permanent new lighting will continue beyond “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” as a park’s defining feature. This is the PREMIER performance of Walt Disney World’s newest Night-Time Spectacular, Enchantment. This coverage if from a media event on September 30, 2021, the eve of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. The presentation includes Christena Aguilera and Walt Disney World Rededication moment with CEO Bob Chapek and Executive Chairmen Bob Iger. It also features Cinderella Castle’s first transition into one of the resort four “Beacons of Magic” Spreading magic across the sky, over a castle, and down a bustling street, the new “Disney Enchantment” nighttime spectacular debuts Oct. 1, 2021, at Magic Kingdom Park.

This dazzling new show helps kick-off “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” an 18-month event in honor of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort. “Disney Enchantment” adds its own new chapter to the storied 50-year history of nighttime entertainment at Magic Kingdom in a breathtaking spectacle of Disney music, stunning fireworks, enhanced lighting, and immersive projection effects that extend for the first time from Cinderella Castle down Main Street, U.S.A. It plays out above and around guests in ways never experienced before at The Most Magical Place on Earth. Inspiring everyone to believe in the magic that lives within them, “Disney Enchantment” features characters, moments, and music from cherished films from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. The show’s stirring soundtrack is anchored by an emotional original song, “You Are the Magic,” written and performed by multiple GRAMMY® winner Philip Lawrence, whose musical career began as a Disney cast member performing in Walt Disney World shows. Cinderella Castle is aswirl in scenes of wonderment, thanks to state-of-the-art projection technology. Guests set sail across the sea with Moana, soar above the clouds on Aladdin’s magic carpet, and more. These projections extend down Main Street, U.S.A., complementing the images on the castle while creating an entirely new immersive and expansive environment for Magic Kingdom. Guests are invited to join dreamers like Princess Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog,” Miguel from Disney and Pixar’s “Coco,” Rapunzel from “Tangled” and brothers Ian and Barley from Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” as they set out on a journey beyond the ordinary to a magic land filled with adventure, wonder, empowerment, and enchantment. In one spectacular sequence, Joe Gardner from Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” brings guests with him into “the zone.” As he plays his piano, shimmering blue and purple lighting extend beyond the castle, transporting guests into a magical realm inspired by the art of Disney Legend Mary Blair. This dream-like space is filled with characters from Disney classics such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “Alice in Wonderland” to contemporary tales including “Wreck-It Ralph” and Disney and Pixar’s “Luca.” Through it all, these heroes discover they have only to look within themselves to find the power to believe and make dreams come true because the magic lived inside them all along. The journey builds to a crescendo as Tinker Bell takes flight and spreads shimmering gold pixie dust over the park, empowering everyone to believe in themselves and the magic all around them.

Those emotions take center stage with “Harmonious,” a new senses-stirring nighttime spectacular debuting Oct. 1, 2021, at EPCOT. Launching in concert with “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” honoring 50 years of Walt Disney World Resort, “Harmonious” shines a light on 15 favorite Disney songs reimagined by a culturally diverse ensemble of 240 artists from around the globe, including musicians, composers, arrangers, vocalists and more. In total, the music was performed and recorded through more than 110 sessions in nine different countries.

The new show continues the multi-year transformation of EPCOT, the Disney theme park dedicated to human achievement and fellowship among nations. “Harmonious” takes EPCOT guests on a thrilling journey through new interpretations of classic Disney songs as they’ve never been heard before, inspired, and influenced by cultures and people from around the world. The music plays amid choreographed moving fountains and lights, lasers, fireworks, and other pyrotechnics bursting spectacularly above and around World Showcase Lagoon. “Music is the heart of any celebration, and Disney music touches people’s lives through powerful melodies and memorable lyrics that are inspiring — in any language,” said Steven Davison, executive creative director, Disney Live Entertainment. “The driving force of ‘Harmonious’ is the music, featuring voices of the world coming together to share in timeless Disney songs.” EPCOT guests gathering on the shores of World Showcase Lagoon are treated to a magnificent cultural symphony, dramatizing the unifying power of story and song.
