NEW Teaser Trailer for Disney’s “Cruella” is Here!
Today is the day!
Today, Disney released the teaser trailer for “Cruella” and all I have to say is… is it May yet?!
Hoping to have the same success that they had in the live-action films of Maleficent. It looks like Disney is really getting into the retelling of their villains! Also, I must admit the saying “It’s good to be bad” seems to be very fitting for this film. The film stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson. The teaser trailer shows Emma Stone as Cruella and is set in 1970s London. It shows Cruella from an origins story point of view. It looks like we will get to see how Cruella becomes the iconic villain that we all know and let’s face it, love!
Disney’s official description for “Cruella” reads: “In 1970s London, young fashion designer Estella de Vil becomes obsessed with dogs’ skins, especially Dalmatians until she eventually becomes a ruthless and terrifying legend known as Cruella.”
Their more detailed synopsis reads, “Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (La La Land) stars in Cruella, an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious—and notoriously fashionable—villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the film follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (Howards End, Sense & Sensibility). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.”
Disney’s Cruella is directed by Craig Gillespie (I Tonya) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, a story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis. It was produced by Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday), Marc Platt (Mary Poppins Returns), and Kristin Burr (Christopher Robin), with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff, and Glenn Close serving as executive producers. Two-time Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road, A Room with a View) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.
The teaser trailer does what teaser trailers are good at which is makes you want more! There’s not a lot of details (it is a teaser trailer after all) but this has me excited for this new film. I’ve already marked my calendar for May 28th, 2021 which is the scheduled release date for “Cruella.”
