Televised June 15, 1959, this ABS special covers the expansion of Disneyland in 1959, and is complementary to the Gala Day at Disneyland theatrical featurette.  The special starts with Walt and Art Linkletter reminiscing the not so long ago, 4 years, the opening of Disneyland.  The 1959 expansion was covered in detail at the recent D23 Expo, seeing the debut of the Matterhorn Bobsleds, The Monorail, and The Submarine Voyage.  The project was so massive many referred to it as “The Second Opening of Disneyland”

Highlights include a mammoth, star-studded parade and the official launching of the Disneyland submarines by U.S. Navy officers. Among the guests are then-Vice-President Richard Nixon and family, Clint Eastwood, and Meredith Willson, who leads the Disneyland band in his own “76 Trombones.”

Sam has been visiting Walt Disney World since 1986. The spark from those early trips lead to an interest in the "How" and "Why" behind Disney Parks and Resorts and the thrill of discovering the history of how we got here today. That History is still being written. In addition to participating on The Disney Nerds Podcast you can find blogs at www.samsdisneydiary.com
